final major project

for my fmp i will be creating a costume, but in order to do this i need to explore all the types of fabrics and medias i could use, and also the colours. as well as the genre so i can make a specific type of costume, i need to look at all types of insperation and techniques i could use to make a good product  and formulate a way in which the designs are going to work in such a way that they all link together.

final major project introduction

for the next few months i will be working on a final major project for my second year of college, our project is a free project so we are able to do what we like as long as we have evidence, research, and design work adequate enough to work as a decent major project, i plan on doing something involving my hobbies, so maybe animation, singing or even costume making, the singing or costume making seems like the more plausable options. i shall update and write a blog for each and every bit of research, progress, and such!

project evaluation

this is an evaluation of the project which was over the course of the last 3 months,
over the past 3 months i created an animation, all it's plannings and drawings and created half of another one with plannings, and presented my work to my peers.

it started in December where i was given multiple choices of what i wanted to do for this project, i chose an animation, an 11 second club animation to be precise, which would only occupy me for a month, as the competition changes every month, so i created a simple black and white rotroscoped animation for the December competition. of course before i created such a thing, i had to do some planning, which consisted of a mind map of all different animation techniques and styles i could use, i also did a few facial expressions and hand gestures to see what kind of thing i could do, and i created a very simple story board so i could go along with this and make my animation, after this was complete i created a little document which recorded on how long it would take me to do my animation, how many hours i should spend etc,  i actually ended up spending less time on the animation which was good for me as it gave me chance to improve some areas, and improve on my designs a little. overall this process went okay, i got my designs sorted in time, i got the animation done in time, however it can be improved, as this was my first official animation going onto the website, i had to make it so it was suitable for my target audience, which it kind of was.

in January, i was fixing up a few designs and writing up an evaluation for my animation, i wrote about how i could have probably made it cleaner, and less jumpy around some areas, probably add more frames but not that i took the advice i got from the comments on my animation which where try to work on my angles, for instance, my first came3ra angle and cut off the top of the characters head and seemed to low down, i need to higher it a bit more, so i took their comments into consideration. in january also i worked on more animation research as i planned to make another animation, however i was unable to finish it, as i decided to make a 3d animation this time in maya, it didn't go so well as im not particularly skilled in maya, and 2 models failed on me completely, so it took me a while to get a decent model and start working on it, but sadly it is incomplete to this day.

February i decided to write up about my unfinished animation and i spoke about what i had done so far, i had already done all the lip syncing, the eye movements, head and hands, however this isn't enough to impress those on the 11 second club, so i announced it as incomplete.

extra: i also managed to write about my target audience what they approved, what they searched for in an animation, how to make it appropriate for these types of people, it is quite tricky,
i would say this project went okay, i didnt have alot of inspiration and should i say motivation for this project, as it was quite dull. as where all the other options i could have picked, so i didn't have quite alot of motivation as i should have had. animation is great and all, but it gets tedious and repetitive, especially if you decide to draw every single frame for an animation and you've only just started out, also the fact is it takes me a while to get ideas, so 4 weeks isnt enough time for me to create a decent animation with my imagination sewn into it. maybe if i wasnt doing it for the 11 second club and had alot longer than 4 weeks, i would have been able to put in alot more effort into my work, especially inspiration and imagination wise.

presentation: my presentation was horrendous at the start as the computer in which i needed wasn't letting me log on so i couldn't show my animation to my teacher with all my work i had to use a separate big screen, i think the showing of all my work and answering any questions i had went well, i believe i had answers for them all, the only problem i had is when they asked if i had used automatic tools for certain frames ( i believe that's what they said, due to the fact i used a different program other than photoshop) , which offended my slightly. but i ignored it and told my teacher that it is all my work, (because it is) confidently. with a presentation you have to be confident, you dont want to be shook up or scared or else you may stutter, lose your place or make up some stuff which has nothing to do with your project, i didn't stutter and i believe i was quiet confident went presenting my work.

the drawings and plannings i did for this project are at a decent level i believe i have enough evidence for my work, enough drawings, and enough feedback to give me an idea on how i can improve on my next lot of work that is if i ever do an animation again, which is unlikely.
